As they are nocturnal, Hawaii Termites can remain unseen and largely invisible in a property until structural damage is done. Most property owners only see evidence of a termite infestation once the colony is established and has already wreaked considerable damage.
Termites are grouped into three caste groups, the worker termite, the soldier termite, and the most likely to be seen by a home owner, the alate or winged termite (also called swarmer termites). The winged termite is the reproductive termite, and during swarming season is the termite responsible for flying out, mating and establishing new termite colonies.
It is important to know the difference between a winged ant and a termite.
