Hawaii termite infestations can grow and expand at an alarming rate–up to 1-2 feet of 2×4 in six months! We use the 2×4 as a rough measurement, but termites love anything wood based including door frames, windows, floorboards, furniture, trusses, floor joists–you get the idea. If it’s made of wood, you are in risk of a termite infestation.
Most property owners don’t realize they have an infestation until the termites have an established colony and are well into their life cycle. Once you have called your local termite inspector and verified the source and termite variety, effective termite control solutions will probably need to be deployed.
Subterranean termites can build their colonies far away from the property by building elaborate tunnels and ‘subterranean passageways’ in order to keep away from detection and predators. At a minimum you will need to consult your termite pest inspection expert to develop a control strategy.
